Lionel Richie 'Scared To Death' By Wife's Money Demand
Mon Mar 8, 8:00 AM ET LAUNCH Radio Networks Lionel Richie (news) said that he was "scared to death" after hearing that his soon-to-be ex-wife, Diane Richie, was seeking $300,000 a month in support, according to BBC News. Diane, who filed for divorce earlier this year, claims that the couple led, quote, "an extraordinary extravagant lifestyle," and that Lionel didn't put any limits on how much money she could spend. The 54-year-old singer told BBC One, "I did call her on the phone when I read this and said 'that's a lot of money'." He said Diana had told him she had not demanded such a high amount of monthly support. Meanwhile, Lionel described the separation as friendly. He said, "It's still in the stages now where we are rounding off to see where we are. You know, marriages go through their ups and downs. As I told her before, if it does happen to end, then I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that we are friends at the end." Diane is a former waitress, dancer and clothing designer. The couple met in 1984 and married in 1996. |
USAs Scarface Miniseries
USA Going Urban on 'Scarface' Miniseries
Tue Mar 9, 6:04 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters TV to My Yahoo! By Andrew Wallenstein LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Scarface" is being reinvented at USA Network, which is developing an updated version that restages the gangster classic with a black cast in inner-city Los Angeles during the crack epidemic of the 1980s. The four-hour miniseries could be in production as early as the fall in time for a 2005 debut, said Charles "Chic" Eglee, a consulting producer on FX's The Shield," who is attached to write and executive produce the project. USA's Universal Studios parent holds rights to the characters and the "Scarface" name, which the miniseries would likely retain. A director and cast have yet to be named. "It's an iconic story that needs to be told every generation, so there's a huge responsibility here," said Eglee, a veteran TV scribe instrumental in creating such primetime series as "Dark Angel" and "Murder One." "I'm just blessed that I have the opportunity to do this." Just as the 1983 film set in Miami starring Al Pacino (news) as Cuban drug lord Tony Montana was a creative departure from the 1932 original, which depicted the rise and fall of Italian immigrant Tony Camonte, the new "Scarface" will not be a strict adaptation of the source material. Eglee will create a new cast loosely based on most of the primary characters instead of literally revisiting them. By reimagining the story on the crime-ridden streets of Los Angeles' inner city, Eglee also will be giving the young, urban fan base of the 1983 version a "Scarface" of its own. "Given the fact that 'Scarface' was so completely embraced as an icon of hip-hop, it's logical to retell that character in an iteration that is Afrocentric," said Eglee, who is bringing aboard rap-music producer Defari to develop a soundtrack and serve as a technical adviser on the miniseries. NEW YORK (AP) -- Oprah Winfrey - talk show host, actress and magazine editor - has a new title to add to her resume: one of the world's most fashionable women. Winfrey appears for the first time on Vanity Fair's 2004 International Best-Dressed List, which is being released Wednesday. The host of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" says Jackie Onassis and Coco Chanel are her fashion icons, and picks Gianfranco Ferre - who created the silvery gown she wore to the Oscars - as her favorite designer. Also among the 10 women on the list are actress Cate Blanchett, "Lost in Translation" writer-director Sofia Coppola, model Kate Moss and Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer, Estee Lauder's vice president for global advertising. Not surprisingly, soccer player David Beckham - an international fashion icon whose style has inspired Dolce & Gabbana - made the men's top 10 list. Among those joining him are actors George Clooney and Jude Law and news anchors Brian Williams of NBC and Anderson Cooper of CNN. The annual list - which originated in the '20s and gained prominence under the guidance of fashion maven Eleanor Lambert, who died in October - will now appear in Vanity Fair magazine, starting with its April issue. |

I'd be scared to. The last time I checked $300,000 was a lot of money. I know Lionel made a lot of money and has money, but still to this living paycheck to paycheck sista, that is a lot of money. |

Berry's sweet smooch
Tue Mar 9, 6:13 AM ET Add Entertainment - USATODAY.com to My Yahoo! By César G. Soriano, USA TODAY Sometimes a kiss is just a kiss, even in Hollywood. Tabloid tongues were wagging Monday after the New York Post ran a front-page photo of Halle Berry (news) kissing an unidentified man with the headline, "Halle's hot new flame." Turns out the handsome hunk is her boss. He's French filmmaker Pitof, who directed Barry's upcoming film, Catwoman. The two are friends who were sharing a long goodbye, says her publicist, Karen Samfilippo. The pic was taken at the Sony studio lot in L.A. last week, where Berry and the crew marked the end of the six-month project. Catwoman is scheduled to open July 30. It's the first English-language film by Pitof (born Jean-Christophe Comar) and only his second turn at directing. He has mostly worked in the special-effects field with such credits as Alien: Resurrection. As for Berry, the Oscar-winning actress is "not seeing anyone," Samfilippo says. Berry, 37, has remained single since her marriage to second husband Eric Benet (news) ended in October amid rumors of his infidelity. Berry was named 2004 female star of the year Thursday by the annual Sho-West film convention. The event takes place March 22-25 in Las Vegas. |
