as for this quote: "Don't try to make it look better by saying we are strong internationally. What makes you so much better??? Shame on you!!" dear god ladies/men lets get all angry now, WE ARE ALL GREEK HERE. geez. oh, and i LOVE Phi Mu. But that doesn't make me think 'oh these 'abc' girls are not as elite and we are sooo better than them, they make the whole greek society look bad...' nope, left that with highschool years ago. now everyone have a good day please, this thread is ridiculous! |
Whatever sorority you are in is an elite sorority. Sisterhood is rare and precious, and we are lucky to have found that.

Well said Cream!
Seems more than time this thread was closed. |

Everybody ROCKS!! |
There are only 6 sororities here on my campus.
I dunno how to classify them with respect to "eliteness", but in fraternity terms, which sororities were known to have the hottest gals are: A) Alpha Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma B) Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Delta Delta C) Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Sigma Theta D) Sigma Kappa just pulled their charter, but they would have been ranked at 3rd. So, if a girl was looking at to get known as "beautiful" she would make it a point to enter A-Phi, or if that wasn't possible, KKG. Then she would work her way down.... -MK |
I think a sorority trying to be elite can actually backfire in the long run. At UBC, a particular sorority (who I'm not going to name) consistently recruited the prettiest girls from the richest families. In the last couple of years, girls have been goign through rush saying "I don't want to be an XYZ", because they didn't want to be labelled as a rich snob. The top houses at UBC are those that, yes, are filled with the pretty girls, but also, they've earned their so-called "elite" status because they do well in school, participate in sports and are involved in many aspects of campus life.

Is DG usually one of the elites at most schools? That's the impression I've gotten, not that I care.

I think they run the gamut like any other sorority. My friend is one at USC and they are highly respected for example, but the chapter at my school is very mediocre. Probably in the bottom third in terms of popularity. |
I think it varies from campus to campus.

Well......I know in my school ( im in RI) I am not in one of the considered "Elite" sororities.......but I feel like my sorority is elite anyway. I am a Tri Sigma ( which no one has mentioned yet) and I have a great group of sisters. I know in the south we are really popular and we have a chapter in alaska. All that matters is that we think we are great!
|
Alpha gam is considered one of the strongest in most area's too!

Just a quick thought...
I can see trying to figure out the various strengths of our fellow fraternities and sororities because that is how we all improve our own organizations, but to ask who are the "elite" seems, at least to me, to contradict what being Greek is at least supposed to be about. The word suggests a sense of superiority over others which is a dangerous position to believe oneself to be in. Well that's just my opinion anyway... |
I was thinking the other day, how I can't imagine what it would like to be in any other sorority or even really comprehend why anyone would join any other sorority while Chi Omega was around. But I realized that is how you should feel about any sorority that you are in. As elitist as that attitude may seem, it is those kind of girls that make a chapter run and continue to grow successfully. I can respect any girl that feels as strong about their letters as I do for my own.
