I really enjoyed the movie Pay it Forward

I just rented "Y Tu Mama Tambien" translated "And Your Mother Too" It was great! Its a Mexican film that came out someime last year about to teenage boys who go on a roadtrip with the Spanish wife of one of their cousins. Coming of age kinda movie. Beware that there is a lot of gratuitous sex so avoid it if that bothers you.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!

Also, the short films that were oen the DVD were good!

I am by no means a movie buff, however here are a few of my top choices:

"The Visit"
Starring Hill Harper and Billy Dee Williams
The movie occurs in the visiting room of a jail cell where Hill Harper's charachter has been infected with AIDS (how is never communicated) and he is trying to mend fences with his family. The movie is powerful and well acted. I truly enjoyed this film.

"Like Water for Chocolate"
Foreign film that has all the passion and love that has been lacking in American film for a while. It is not as powerful as the book, yet it is still and awesome interpretation.

"Monsoon Wedding"
It is an Indian film about the marriage of a young girl and all the issues about the family that come along with the planning of the wedding. Very funny!!

"Fire"
Captures the life and struggles of Indian women living India and the frustrations of women living in a loveless marriage.

Peace and Love

City of God
 

There is a new indie flick called City of God. It is Brazilian with subtitles. You guys, this movie is just awesome. It is out in limited release, but if you have the chance, definitely check it out.

I loved the movie and the book. It was just so good. I normally don't go for foreign films with subtitles (generally, because I like to do other things while I'm watching the movie) but I cought this movie on Bravo one day and fell in love. I have seen it about 15 times and read the book three times.

You're right the passion in this film is overflowing. The rose petal scene was the best in the film. It was refreshing to see a love story that didn't have the same overused storylines.

This movie just seemed too real. I don't like movies like that. "Kids" was another one where I was thinkin, okay are they acting or is this like a for-real documentary??
