deepimpact, I don't know where you go to school, I am sure it is accredited, I'm just making a funny for Mr. Cat.

And Mr. Cat was amused. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/animal0003.gif

Good and I hope you all aren't "arguing" with deepimpact. :)

Okay, I'm really having a problem with a law student using blue laws as evidence. Really having a problem with that.

I understand what you mean, but some people got a little combative when my response to her question was pretty bland. I intentionally didn't elaborate for that very reason. :)

I find it interesting that everytime I ask why someone is opposed to gay marriage, the answer almost always (like 99% of the time) involves religion.

Completely agree.

Ehh...I like arguments. I don't think that implies anything bad. Do you like debating better?

This is more of a discussion or debate than an argument.

I naturally use argument for this type of discussion in daily life....I guess that's an idiosyncrasy of mine.:D

In my original post I was talking about people not in this thread, I live in Idaho, trust that we have religious/government fervent (and anti-government) people I coexist with every day. We have some pretty active groups on campus who fit that description, and want nothing to change from the 1770s, and see it as the only way and it needs to stay intact.

See, I guess since I'm a lawyer, "argument" has a whole different connotation. I have arguments in court all the time.

And yeah about the blue laws.

In my field where we casually discuss topics that people consider controversial and terrifying everyday:

You "make an (the) argument (for, that, etc.)," "so-and-so argues that..." or "engage in the argument that..." But, that's completely different than saying you are arguing with someone or having an argument. Different tone and context.

:)

Oh, I get that. I'm just saying that in the context of my field, "argument" and "arguing" aren't necessarily that different from "discussion" and "discussing," except that an argument should be more formal and better thought through. I "have" arguments all the time, though I argue "against" someone, not "with" them.

Oh, the turns a thread can take.

Where I come from argument doesn't really have that much of a different tone or context. I think for you it means what a "fight" means for me...but I am a little bit country.:D

This is a message board and people take typed words at face value.

I'm not following the point you're making. The point is that the laws exist. I made those statement in reference to the fact that someone was saying that no one is making laws concerning these things.

Oh and I'm not sure those laws really qualify as "blue laws."
