So I thought of this show while I was at Target today. I came out of the dressing room and my husband was in a crummy mood. I asked, "What's wrong?" His response, "I just saw a teenager with a baby. She was with her dad and they were talking about homework and buying supplies for the upcoming school year. Why didn't dad teach her not to get pregnany while still in HS? WTF is wrong with people? Doesn't she realize she's pretty much effed up her life now?"
I asked if it was maybe her sister or baby brother, and he said nope. |
Gem from tonight's ep:
Girl: "He might not support me financially, but he supports me MENTALLY!!!" Dad: "Mental support doesn't buy diapers or put food on the table." Seriously though, the whole "babydaddy does nothing while girl and girl's family foot the bill for everything" situation is pretty crappy. LOL @ babydaddy calling her a "piece of crap" on the phone, when he's jobless, drinking, and going to jail. You're awesome. This girl is really something, esp. with the way she speaks to her mom who does EVERYTHING. |
I hope all the girls on this new season aren't like the one tonight.... she was ridiculously immature.

Im still struggling with the concept of the show. MTV says they arent trying to glamorize teen pregnancy but...for how many seasons is that story gonna hold up? The 1st season only had 6 girls, this one has 10. And how do they even find these girls?
I tried watching this season premiere but i had to leave in the middle of the episode. But i can already tell these girls are gonna be a hot mess lol |

And I'm sure there is a link on the website now.... 'Are you 16 and just found out you're pregnant? Is your BI**H of a mom helping you, but hates when you go out? Is your babydaddy unlikely to stay around but you think you'll be 2gether 4ever? Want to be on the show?" :D |

I think 16 and Pregnant is doing a hell of a better job showing the truth about teen pregnancy, than "Secret Life of the American Teenager." Now that show glamorizes teen pregnancy. |
Apparently Jennelle has an affinity for smoking pot. while pregnant.

Ugh Jenelle was NASTY. I get that her mom was kind of annoying (ok, her voice was..) but DAMN she did not have to talk to her that way.
By the end of the episode Jenelle looked like she dropped 50lbs...waay too skinny. Poor Jace :( |
I love how she's getting ready to go out and her mom just LOSES it and is like "WTF do you think he is? A dog or a cat?"

The scariest part about this episode is the way she got pregnant, one of my friends does that (stops taking her pill if she isnt around/hooking up with any guys, then restarts)..Ill have to show her this one! |

I'm totally gonna get flamed for my opinion, but whatever...
I personally feel this show does glamorize teen pregnancy. MTV is taking a subject that is now on the rise again and putting it on reality television. Teenagers (well all of us) are being BOMBARDED with reality shows. Then these reality show stars because "real" stars and taking up covers of People (i.e. Heidi Montag-Pratt). Remembering how stupid I was as a teenager, I was all about Hollywood and "wanting to be famous" myself. I wouldn't be at all suprised if girls will eventually deliberately get pregnant so that they can call MTV and be on the show. My own stupid cousin (now 20) deliberately got pregnant at 18. Remember the pregnancy pact in Maine? Those girls go so much attention because they got pregnant. The thing is, these girls are obviously craving attention in their lives, and now they are getting it, albeit negative. But as a teacher, kids don't care whether they are getting positive or negative attention, all they care about is "getting attention". |
