Seen a Hawaii game or a GA game...? I've seen highlights from Hawaii games but they're not SEC so I don't follow them as well as other teams, and I certainly didn't expect UGA to be playing them in a BCS bowl game. And yeah, Hawaii did have a weak schedule so it's hard to call them a good team when you have other teams out there like UGA who had a very strong schedule and really proved themselves, which, I'm sorry, but Hawaii will be doing for the first time this season come January when they play the Dawgs. Like one sportscaster said, "Nobody wants to play the Bulldawgs right now."

A Hawaii game, my dear.

What you and Kevin and whoever else are saying isn't anything new. They've been saying that about Hawaii all season.

It's also not just about winning for us. While your football teams over there can bask in the luxury of having financially sound athletic departments, the $4.2 (or so) million payout is a godsend, especially when you consider the fact that the football team's showers couldn't even provide the team with SOAP last year.

Hawaii has had an unbelievable run and the team believes that they can beat anybody, and that's pretty darn awesome.

NutBrnHair 12-03-2007 05:49 PM

I watched the Hawaii vs. Boise State game and I was impressed with their style of offense.

Sure, I'm an SEC fan, but I'm looking forward to watching the Sugar Bowl. Definitely a clash of different styles of football.

Don't doubt that June Jones knows all about the legacy of UGA football -- he was in Atlanta for quite awhile! He'll have his boys ready.

You're right about hate fueling passion. I'm getting enough of it from my coworker. We're not in the Rose Bowl like he dreamed, but he's just cheering endlessly for Hawaii.

Thanks for the gift, but I'll take a Visa Gift card instead. Just don't get your grimy LSU paw prints on it. ;)

At least we agree on something!

Will anyone here be attending any of the bowl games this year?

About 22,000 tickets have already been sold to UGA fans (last I heard). Y'all definitely have an advantage -- average prices for a Hawaii Sugar Bowl package start at $2000 (airfare, 4 nights hotel, game day tickets, transportation, tailgate). I'm willing to shell it out, but I'm afraid I'm having a tough time convincing the homies to do the same. :(

I'd love to be in Nashville, but due to a holiday family reunion this year I can't. Maybe, just maybe, next year...and it's nice to type that and think it could be within the realm of possibility.

I will come back and eat my words, IF LSU loses.

Both teams will be able to take advantage of the much needed time off. We should have our starting QB healthy, along with a few other starters that were out with injuries.

What is Ohio States record against SEC teams in bowl games????:D
0-8

And to the poster that said SEC fans were arrogant... we aren't, we're just better than you! Kidding....:p

Seriously, I'm looking forward to the matchup. Good Luck!

jojapeach 12-04-2007 12:39 AM

^^^ Enjoy the game! *sigh* I guess I'll be supporting UF again. Not cheering for, just supporting. I can't stand Michigan either.

It would be cool to see UF beat Michigan after they beat OSU last year. *trying to keep head from exploding from holding my laugh in*

Benzgirl 12-04-2007 08:30 AM

As much as I love my Buckeyes, I just don't see them winning. I feel they are Number 1 by default. If they pull it out, I'll be surprised (and overjoyed), but I don't see it happening.

SEC-2,5,9
That's why I haven't said anything derogatory about the Big XII.

I did, and I'm alumna of a Big XII school. My only comment was that I don't think the Big XII is necessarily excellent top to bottom. I think each team had some outstanding games this year but there's a definite separation.

I love my Cyclones. I think Chizik did above and beyond what anyone expected him to do in his first season as head coach (beating Iowa and two conference teams), but there is so much room for improvement. We made too many stupid mistakes IMO to be considered excellent. Decent, maybe, and I'm excited for the next few years, but not excellent.

I also love that the North is finally getting some recognition beyond Nebraska.

Do you mean alot of fans travel? YES. I personally knew a TON of people who flew out for the Rose Bowls even when they weren't the championship bowl. Being in Florida and much closer to Michigan, I can only imagine. Plus you have to add on Michigan alumni who live in Florida and the south.

I don't understand why they don't have a bowl game at the Big House. 111,000 seats, which usually the viewing crowd amounts to over 112,000, it just seems like it'd be a great place for a bowl game.

I would love to go to Memphis and watch the UCF v. Mississippi State game but I have a friend's wedding that weekend in Orlando. Bad timing. All my UCF friends here in Atlanta are driving up there for the game. I'm so jealous!

I'll only go to the Peach Bowl if someone gives me free tickets. Of course, I could keep riding by and have the small tv plugged into the car outlet.;)

I'd LOVE to go the sUGAr Bowl, but that definitely isn't going to happen:(

Lynn, UGA fans are lucky.

http://honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/p...WS01/712040352

Hawaii's sold 5,000 tickets in just one day to season ticket holders. Lots of tickets to go around -- but no flights and no hotels. Lots of activity going on that week, especially with the National Championship game going on a week later. Tickets to the general public haven't even gone up for sale yet.

Vacation packages start at $1,999 for air, 4 nights hotel, game tickets, and tailgate... but I'm assuming those packages are already gone. I know of several people who spent as much as $3,500 per person.

I'm still not sure if I'm going (don't know if I can even get days off), but at this rate, if I do, I'll be flying into Houston and hauling ass. Putting myself back in debt is worth it, I suppose. :o

As I said earlier, it's not Hawaii's fault for having a weak schedule (link provided above). It's no fluke. Colt's offense and a highly improved defense (compared to recent years) is what got them this far and yes, they'll be put to the true test come January 1st, but I really think it's far too early to call it a cupcake game, especially when you're basing your opinion on shit talk you read on message boards and you've never even seen a game. :)

I do not underestimate Hawaii at all. While I have all the confidence that Georgia will win (count me in the arrogant SEC alumni/fan group), I've seen y'all play a few times this season and y'all are for real!

Anybody remember this score from last year's Fiesta Bowl?

Boise State 43 Oklahoma 42

Yes, they're the SEC champs, but it wasn't won by a sound beating. Just 21 - 14 over Tennessee. Not very impressive.

Besides, Michigan was denied the #2 slot last year because they had their one shot at #1 against Ohio State. LSU is being granted a third stinking shot at #1. I already knew this, but GAWD THE BCS SUCKS!

Lastly, no written rule that says you must be the Conference Champs. Now, I hate LSU more than ever. (But I can't cheer for Ohio State. Never.)

You're wrong...Michigan didn't get to the final game last year because NO ONE wanted to see them lose to Ohio State yet again. A lot more goes into the choice than just who is ranked #1 and #2 by the computer. Obviously the computer was wrong since #1 got whipped by UF! LSU gets its third chance because no one else did better. The SEC teams that LSU lost to played their best games of the year against us. Even if Arkansas was unranked, McFadden (who deserved the Heisman) was back and played an awesome game. They would have been better this year if he'd stayed off the injured list. SEC is by far the strongest conference. Even with two losses, we're going to kill Ohio State and prove that point. I think the top 5 SEC teams could beat Ohio State, so Go LSU, Go Tennessee, Go Georgia! Don't hate LSU...we've worked hard to get here. UGA has beaten us too many times to count, but it's our turn now! You may be a better team...hell, we were a better team than UF last year, but you didn't see us running around crying like a bunch of babies! Be happy that the SEC is getting some recognition.

Not very impressive? They used a backup that did nothing but run the ball all year and hadn't thrown a pass in a month. 464 yards of offense w/ 200+ yards rushing on a fairly good defense is pretty impressive.

No, their isn't a rule saying you have to be your conference champs. There shouldn't have to be. It should be understood by everyone who isn't void of rational thought that if you don't even make your conference championship game you have no business being in the national title game. Shouldn't have lost to Tennessee or South Carolina.

The only team, in my opinion, that had a pretty solid argument for getting in the BCS Championship was Oklahoma....and that was a shaky argument at best. Some will say USC had a claim also.....I'm not buying it. Losing to Stanford at home, not being the least bit dominant in any game except Notre Dame.....not impressive.

macallan25 12-25-2007 06:37 AM

Don't agree with Arizona State. Played very poorly at the end of the season over their last 4 games.

I'm sorry that you're always long-winded, but I essentially said the same thing about the '06 Michigan team without expounding.

How about...if I wanted to be a crybaby at that moment, I have the right. You have the right to go on and on when you really should shut up and not worry about UGA fans (or at the least me).

And the SEC always gets recognition. You're obviously not a real (arrogant) SEC fan.

Touche. A lot of fans have rational thought, but we have a great deal of optimism, hope, and faith when it comes to the Dawgs. Alas, all of that was not competition for the BCS. Agree to disagree...?

http://www.cleveland.com/osufootball...620.xml&coll=2
...from page two...
" John Humenik saw the difference when he left as Michigan's sport information director to take the same job at Florida in 1982. Living Big Ten football - the Rose Bowl, Bo Schembechler, Ohio State-Michigan - he thought he was ready.
"From the moment I walked in the door, it was noticeable," said Humenik, who retired at Florida in 2002. "Everything was just different. You could ratchet it up about 10 times or so."
Oklahoma fans F.J. and Amy Rice dealt with that four years ago when they followed their son, Jacob, to the 2004 Sugar Bowl. He was the Sooners' long snapper in that 21-14 national title loss to LSU, and his parents experienced a week they'll never forget. Amy Rice said it started with a drive through the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, when a young female jogger saw the Oklahoma decals on their cars and cursed at them once, then did it again to make sure they heard. It continued in New Orleans.
"They yell the rudest things, and not fun things, either," Amy Rice said. "It's not a friendly rivalry, it's an ugly rivalry. When I saw who was playing, I said, 'Oh, those poor Ohio State people, they'll be like we were. It'll be a home game for LSU, and they are so dadgum mean.' "
While praising fans of other schools Oklahoma faced away from home - Alabama, Oregon, Southern Cal, Colorado, Nebraska - F.P. Rice said he was shocked and unprepared for what he faced in New Orleans.
"It's one thing when college kids do it, but it's another thing when adults decide they're going to destroy your entire weekend," he said.
Rice was so upset, he sent a letter to the editor of a Louisiana newspaper. After it was published, he said he received several angry letters back from LSU fans, with one that included the expectorate of the writer. "

And as of 12/31, the SEC remains the only undefeated conference in bowl games at 4-0. The SEC had 10 of 12 teams bowl eligible (83.3%) with 9 teams (75%) earning bowl bids. As of this morning, the SEC is 4/4 (100%) and the only undefeated conference. With four more games today and the National Championship game next week, we'll see what happens.

Team (Ranking) Record Bowl Bid/Results

Georgia (4) 10-2 Sugar Bowl

Tennessee (16) 9-4 Won Outback Bowl

Florida (9) 9-3 Lost to Michigan in Capital One Bowl!!!

Kentucky 8-5 WON Music City!!!

South Carolina 6-6 Bowl eligible--no bid

Vanderbilt 5-7 Not eligible

LSU (2) 11-2 BCS Championship Game

Auburn (22) 9-4 Won Chick-fil-A bowl

Arkansas (25) 8-4 Lost Cotton Bowl

They should win, based on the way the SEC puts together recruiting classes. Speaking only on the Big Ten and SEC... the Big Ten instituted a policy where teams could oversign by no more than three players. The SEC is among the conferences with no guidelines.

According to Scout.com, SEC teams lined up an average of 101 commitments during the 2004-07 period. The Big Ten Teams averaged 85 recuits for the same time period.\

For the 2007 year alone the number of average recruits per conference were as follows:

SEC 26.3
Conf USA 25.3
Big 12 25.1
Big East 24.4
MWC 23.8
Pac 10 22.7
MAC 21.8
ACC 21.7
Sunbelt 21.6
WAC 21.4
Big Ten 19.9

The only thing I can compare this with is the Yankees total salaries vs. the rest of baseball.
