Am I hearing something completely different than the judges? They loved Chris. I thought he was terrible.

texas*princess 04-24-2007 10:33 PM

I think LaKisha or Chris is next to peace out.

I wasn't impressed with Phil or Blake either.

irishpipes 04-24-2007 10:58 PM

I agree that Chris sounded pretty bad. Even Simon said he was good though??? I didn't think anyone was that great to be honest. I like Jordin, but when Randy said that was the best vocal ever on AI, I thought that was quite the stretch.

Predicted bottom two:
Chris
Lakisha (I love her but the judges have turned against her now and she has had back-to-back bad weeks)

xo_kathy 04-24-2007 11:58 PM

I didn't hear Chris, but I've been saying for a while I don't get why they fawn over him.

And I still love Lakisha. I can't believe they say she "shouts" but that the song tonight was so perfect by Fantasia. Fantasia is a horrible "screecher" and they never seemed to mind. Lakisha's tone is SO much better in my opinion.

Another eh week for me. I thought Jordin was good, but don't think it was one of the best perfromances ever on AI?!

JenMarie 04-25-2007 01:31 AM

I really liked Lakisha in the beginning of the season, but back to back Idol Alumnae songs for her songs? *sigh* I dunno.

MTSUGURL 04-25-2007 01:52 AM

I just gotta say, Melinda brings people to Jesus.
I can't stand Chris. He sounds like a boy band reject.
I still want to make out with Blake's voice.
Jordin is amazing, but I'm not going to say the best in AI history... I love that song though. Sang it in high school choir.
Phil. Um, ok. Not a fan.
LaKisha is slipping... I'm predicting that either she or Chris are gone next week.

I thought she did well and I really like her, but she doesn't have a chance. Back-to-back Idol songs plus the judges's comments over the past few weeks will probably result in her elimination tonight.

Amen! I adore her. I really don't think she'll win, but here's hoping that she goes out like Chris Daughtry and has nice post-Idol career.

Blake annoys me. Must be my age. :)

Chris wasn't as good as the judges said last night. Difference in live and in person vs. "live" on tv? Subtle judging manipulation? He sounded terrible, especially in comparison to the rest of the 6.

I do like Phil but he's not the next American Idol.

Jordin was amazing last night. That was her "Stuff Like That There" and it wouldn't surprise me if she won the whole thing. Best performance ever on Idol? Nope, but in the top five.

ΑΓΔSquirrel10 04-25-2007 09:57 PM

Whoa...

I don't have any words for this episode

texas*princess 04-25-2007 10:10 PM

i kind of figured they were going to not vote anyone off this week... i think the tipoff for me was the fact that Ryan said yesterday the results would be "shocking"

how would he know the results before the voting even started?

it was a very touching episode though

kddani 04-25-2007 10:12 PM

I thought that most of it was cheese-tastic.

Seeing Simon as a real person with feelings and emotions was nice.

PeppyGPhiB 04-26-2007 01:17 PM

Last night's episode had some of the most random things thrown in. For example, the "Staying Alive" video with all the celebrities that was sandwiched in with one of the lame Ford "music videos" they do every week.

Anyway, I'm curious to hear how much money was raised.

I read it was around $30 million.

OrchidAlum 04-26-2007 02:01 PM

This week was such a waste. Also, poor Jordin. It was so mean to make her think she was out for those 30 seconds.

mu_agd 04-26-2007 04:26 PM

How did they make it seem like Chris and Jordin were in the bottom two? I didn't get that impression at all.

Last night was the ultimate in AI manipulation. Please don't get me wrong. Raising money to do good in the world is GOOD, and even better that some of it is actually staying in our country. Then they somehow got Jeff Beck to perform, which was worth the two hour investment to see who didn't even go home.

But, has it occurred to anyone else that maybe, just maybe, one of the "golden children" was actually #6? TPTB did a darned good job to make the viewers think Jordin and Chris were in danger, and then that Jordin was gone. Their fans will be voting in full force next week to make darned sure they aren't in the bottom two.

I love AI as much as the next person, but it's a graduate course in media manipulation. :)

MTSUGURL 04-26-2007 05:36 PM

I stayed home from my boyfriend's house to watch AI last night in hopes I would see Chris go home. Although it wasn't a complete waste of time, I think I would've enjoyed being at his house more...
Would someone smarter than me please tell me how they did that whole Celine/Elvis thing?

risingstar 04-26-2007 05:46 PM

In the beginning of the show, Ryan said the names that he call out would not be in any particular order. I LOVE LaKisha, despite what everyone else has been saying. Her vocals are amazing. Jordin is marketable, that's about it. There is nothing fascinating about her vocals. Melinda, I am so tired of the "I can't believe you're saying all of these wonderful things about me" look she always has on her face. And she is not as nice as everyone thinks she is. Just FYI...

I was so messed up by that. I COULD NOT figure that out. I was hoping Ryan would have given us at least a little explanation.

I read today that it was about $60M.

ZTABullwinkle 05-01-2007 08:42 PM

I would wait until the show ended, but can I just say how awesome Blake did tonight? I thought he was going to screw up his song. I was very pleasantly surprised.

No way. He ruined a great classic.

Chris, Phil and Lakisha really rocked out so far.

MTSUGURL 05-01-2007 08:54 PM

I disagree. I think Blake totally owned the song. I also think Melinda is doing a FREAKING AMAZING job.

kddani 05-01-2007 08:56 PM

Okay, so the drummer needs to lay off the cowbell. I've noticed it being really strong in several songs. Particularly in Melinda's.

http://www.daveheinzel.com/blog/cowbell.jpg

The only person I've been even mildly entertained by is Blake. The rest was like bad karaoke. Bon Jovi is pretty standard fair for karaoke.

I hate when they narrow it to one band that they can pick songs from it really screws a lot of people. Bon Jovi has a good amount of songs, but they all want to pick songs that the crowd knows. But one band's songs are not one-size-fits-all

I think I just don't like the beat box thing. That's one of my favorite songs and hearing it done "Blake style", I duno. Kinda bothered me. Plus I'm a huge fan of rock and get pissy whenever a rock song is done by non-rockers.

Then you probably shouldn't have watched the rock episode of American Idol. None of these guys or girls are rockers.

LeslieAGD 05-01-2007 09:13 PM

I really liked Melinda and Chris...but I hate, hate, HATED Blake's awful version.

True. I didn't know Bon Jovi would be on because I haven't been watching too much tv lately. I was hoping to hear a little "Always" or one of the other slow songs.

How I miss Gina.

AOIIalum 05-01-2007 10:15 PM

I also miss Gina Glocksen.

Phil owned everything about tonight and earned another week. Melinda pulled it off admirably and I still adore her. Thought Lakisha did a fine job and 65 minutes later have only gotten through for her one time. Jordin was clearly out of her league, Chris was there but didn't impress, and Blake was either okay (while actually singing the freaking song) or horrific (while "stylizing" the freaking song).

Results predictions: Another "record breaking" amount of votes. Lots of commericals. Our finalists sing another Bon Jovi song as yet another summer tour preview. Probably "Always" or "IBTFW" because AI hates me like that. More commericals, because what's AI without commerical overload? Bon Jovi sings a song, which I assume has something to do with a new album because AI is pimptastic like that. Commercials bulldoze straight into the results around 9:22 pm EST with the double elimination ceremony.

Should go home? Jordin and Chris.
Will go home? I hope I'm wrong about Lakisha, but after the vote, she and Chris are going home.

AGDee 05-01-2007 11:04 PM

Shoot, I typed out a whole response and forgot to click "Post" Short version: I hated Blake and think he destroyed that song. I liked Chris

tinydancer 05-01-2007 11:47 PM

I always thought I didn't like Bon Jovi, but I enjoyed all those songs tonight.

xo_kathy 05-02-2007 10:13 AM

I didn't mind Blake's version, but could have done with a little less beat boxing. The whole break where he did only that and then the drummer responded - too much. I prefer when he mixes it into the actual singing. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was that fab.

Chris did OK and actually didn't sound as nasaly, but it wasn't that good. More like good karoke. Same with Phil - who I thought was better than Chris - but still karoke.

Poor Jordin. I understand it wasn't your genre, but you could have found a different song and done better.

LaKisha was wonderful with that song, but I'm worried she'll be going home because of last week.

And Melinda...while she sang it fine, her personality finally made me dislike her this week. The whole "which-way-do-I-put-my-fingers-to-be-a-rocker?" thing while her eyes bug out and the "acting" on stange to be a rocker, it just really rubbed me the wrong way.

Who I wish would be gone: Chris & Phil
Who I think will be gone: Chris & LaKisha :(

OrchidAlum 05-02-2007 10:53 AM

I loved Blake. He's been one of my favorites since the beginning.

The LaKisha/Simon kiss was

risingstar 05-02-2007 11:11 AM

Lakisha did the darn thing last night. And everyone knows Lakisha's capabilities, she just lost focus for a little bit, which may still effect her results tonight. Jordin DID bomb. Blake was okay at best. Melinda was not at her best neither.

ZTAngel 05-02-2007 11:39 AM

I don't get why the judges love Blake so much. I think he sucks. Chris was actually pretty decent last night. I love that Ryan called him Justin Timberlake - Chris looked so pissed. Phil, Melinda and Lakisha all did well. Jordin tanked.

PeppyGPhiB 05-02-2007 01:44 PM

I don't get why people like Chris so much. I've thought he sucked from day 1. I just don't think he has a good voice, and I don't think the world needs another Justin Timberlake. I think the reason people like Blake is that he seems just generally musically talented. Good singing voice, and he can beat box, but what he has that others in the competition don't seem to have is a strong drive to be creative. He's chosen some non-mainstream songs over the weeks, and changes them when he wants to.

For those remarking on Bon Jovi, he's actually come out saying that lately he's a big fan of country music. He doesn't like a lot of the rock out now, particularly the lyrics, and says he relates more to the words and "stories" in some country songs. That's why he's been doing some crossover songs.

kansas13 05-02-2007 06:35 PM

I personally liked Blake's version...my husband was pretty impressed too!! He said that if he ever made a single with that song he would buy it.

I really liked Phil from the beginning, personality and all, but at first I didn't think he had what it takes to go on, but the last couple of weeks he has surprised me. He would REALLY do good in the country genre.

I hope Chris and Lakisha/Jordin would go tonight.
My guess would be Chris and Phil

Unregistered- 05-02-2007 06:41 PM

I don't know. I really didn't like Jordin last night. Maybe it was the hair. She looked like a muppet.

Not too big of a LaKisha fan, but her performance of one of my favorite songs makes me hope she'll stay one more week. I could have done without the Simon liplocking.

Please let it be Chris and Jordin!

AGDLynn 05-02-2007 10:15 PM

Chris and Phil Gone

On to next week.

LeslieAGD 05-02-2007 10:19 PM

I really think Blake should have gone this week but, without even hearing the performances, I am sure he will go next week.
