Mac Attacked by Rare Disease

The 46-year-old star of Fox's The Bernie Mac Show announced Thursday that he has sarcoidosis, a rare and sometimes life-threatening autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the body's tissues, most frequently in the lungs.


Mac, who first made the disclosure via Star magazine's Website, issued a statement through his publicist saying he was first diagnosed with sarcoidosis in his 20s.


"I've had sarcoidosis since 1983, and it has not altered or limited my lifestyle," Mac says. "No one knows where sarcoidosis comes from or where it starts, and there's no known cause for this condition that effects primarily minorities."


Last summer Mac's health became an issue when he was hospitalized after completing work on Ocean's Twelve. Filming on the fourth season of The Bernie Mac Show was subsequently delayed.


Initially, a Fox rep said Mac was merely taking a self-imposed hiatus because he was suffering from exhaustion, brought on by a heavy work schedule that included his TV show and the Ocean's Eleven sequel, along with the baseball film Mr. 3000 and the upcoming Guess Who, the racially flipped update of the 1967 drama Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, in which he plays a dad upset his daughter wants to marry a white guy. The network later said Mac was suffering from pneumonia.


But now, his spokesperson tells Star that Mac "had double pneumonia which weakened his lungs and his entire immune system, and the sarcoidosis symptoms became pronounced."


The disease can prove fatal in about in about five percent of cases and is cited as the cause of death for football great Reggie White last December. Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Russell also suffers from the disorder.


Mac's publicist, Matt Labov, is quick to point out that sarcoidosis is a "treatable illness and not deadly." In his statement, Mac says, "I still walk, play basketball and do normal things...Since sarcoidosis hasn't slowed me down, then it shouldn't be a concern for others."


The Chicago native says he has visited several sarcoidosis patients at La Rabida Hospital in Chicago.


"I'll be devoting my summer to creating the Bernie Mac Foundation. Through my ongoing and private efforts, I'm organizing a golf tournament in Chicago, and the proceeds will be given to different sarcoidosis organizations. I hope to announce further details about this soon."


Fox, meanwhile, says that since a healthy Mac has returned, there have been no further interruptions to filming his sitcom, which airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Production is complete on about half of its 22 scheduled episodes.

I barely watch the show now, so I am SURE that I won't be watching if Fake Jake, I mean, Ray J is involved. :rolleyes:

Cute kid! He's rather fair-skinned though. I never really paid attention to the "husband," so maybe the kid looks like him.

Yup, it's been reported by Wendy Williams that Jay-Z and Beyonce were at a John Legend performance and Jay-Z and Eva from America's Next Top Model were staring at each other. Wendy was talking as if she saw it herself, so I don't know if she saw this herself or someone told her. She said while Beyonce was in awe at John Legend's singing, Jigga and Eva were making a connection.

I was sitting here staring at the picture like, "That's not a nipple print, is it?...Nah, it CAN'T be! Wait...Is it?" No one can deny that Soror Star has lost a lot of weight, but she isn't that small.

I am not phased by Jay-Z and Eva staring at one another. To me, it looks like he was staring at her as if to say, "Why you over looking at me while my girl's standing here?" (OK, I borrowed that from Mase and 112 :p) For real though, she is looking all "dreamy," while he is looking like she had just tapped him on the shoulder or something.

Eva is NO match for Beyonce!

I think I am the only person in the world that wants Be"yawn"ce and Jay-Z to break up. I wanted him to be linked to Free...but Eva will work. I really just don't like them being a couple. I know no one agree's with me..lol...but I'm used to it when it comes to this subject.:D


P.S. Didn't Jay-Z and Foxy Brown have a little "thing" going on a while ago? I wonder how Be"yawn"ce felt about Foxy being signed onto Jay-Z's new record label(or whatever it is he just got)?

I don't know if they had a "thing" (but I think I did hear that), but Foxy was originally signed to Def Jam. However, around the time when Foxy was with that Marley brother (I forget his name), had the miscarriage, suicide attempt, breakdown, etc., she was dropped. I think there was a link here with her radio interview when she was talking about it. Jay just re-signed her to the label.

Foxx & Farrell Go Miami Vice
As previously tipped here months ago… we can now officially add Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell to the list of stars resurrecting TV shows for the big screen. Foxx and Farrell will star in a movie version of the cop series Miami Vice, which will be written and directed by Michael Mann, who was an executive producer on the show that ran on NBC from 1984-89. Shooting is scheduled to begin this spring, with the movie tentatively due in theaters July 28, 2006. Other upcoming movie updates of TV shows include Cedric the Entertainer in The Honeymooners, Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in Bewitched and The Dukes of Hazzard, with Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson and Burt Reynolds. Jamie Foxx says of the ‘Vice’ remake: "it's going to redefine cool. You're going to see our Crockett and Tubbs suits and be like, 'I want those.' You'll see our car and you'll go, 'I want one of those.' And as for our woman, man, you're gonna be like, 'Now I gotta get me some of that.'"

England football captain David Beckham is set to get down and dirty with the stunning Beyonce and J-Lo - in a martial arts TV ad.

According to The Sun, Becks will “fight” the two divas in a new advert for Pepsi.

An insider described the commercial as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets Kill Bill.”

The ad, set in the Far East, is to be shot in Europe in the next few weeks, and is costing millions to produce.

It will be the first time the Real Madrid player will star alongside non-sporting stars in a TV ad, which is to be shown worldwide.

Earlier in the year Beckham, 29, signed a five-year, £10million deal with the drinks giant.

The football ace has already appeared in Pepsi ads with Brazilian stars Roberto Carlos and Ronaldhino.

The insider added: “David is exited to be doing an advert with Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.

“His previous ads have all been with sporting stars. He’s never done promotional things with singers or Hollywood actresses.

“It shows he is now a massive worldwide brand – even in America.”
