LOL what were they doing with that poor person dressed up as a bear!!!

The hoodies and the hair in the second AOII pic look like from my era! We only had fraternity sportswear in navy and white...or something like that. It was a big deal when I was a junior and bought a light blue hoodie with two tone layered letters! The hair looks familiar as well....LOL. Great AOII pics!

Looks like a circus side show theme! Maybe a monkey?

Uh oh, poodle hair. Not something I miss from the 80's.

There were never such devoted sisters ...

If you’ve been anywhere near campus over the last week, it’s been hard to miss the rows of college women lined up outside of sorority houses, walking across campus in summer dresses, or gathered around Memorial Hall in white dresses. Last week marked the annual open house and recruitment week for UK sororities, a long-standing tradition which includes the 1,900+ sorority members and recruits.

A look at UK sorority life:

I'm thinking the Raggedy Ann skit could actually be Delta Gamma performing something about Hannah Dolls, given the anchor on the dress, the other dolls on the back wall, and the partial crest on the left side of the picture.

No idea on why my sisters have a sheep.

SWTXBelle 04-28-2010 08:59 PM

Sheep? Not goats? :)

I believe the chapter is closed. I think this is AlphaFrog's (longtime ASA poster) chapter.

Our Gamma Phi chapter at FSU is being recolonized in Fall 2010, and the Alpha Phi blog had some old pictures on it!

Since they came on campus in 1959, I am guessing 1959 or 1960

"Twinkle Starr"

No lie, there is a woman named "Twinkle Starr" on my chapter's composites in the 1970's section (we have them hung in chronological order throughout the halls of the house). I definitely had to do a double take and wonder why her parents did this to her (I'm guessing they were hippies)...no offense if you ever reads this, Twinkle :)

LaneSig 05-12-2010 09:03 AM

^^ Hopefully it wasn't her real name. Probably a nickname. If she went to school in the 70's she was either born in the 50's or early 60's. Too soon for the parents to be hippies.

My middle school teacher's last name was beach and she said she wanted to name her children sandy and orange. Also she bought in her year book from highschool (they printed first, middle and last names) and no lie one girl's name was Ginger Bread House...I mean really who does that to their child?

And very uncomfortable too ... all those women were probably wearing garter stockings, a girdle of some sort and a heavy wired or padded bra. Not to mention that many of them slept in rollers overnight so that their hair would be ready to style in the morning. But damn ... the looked good!

I did a sister search on the Gamma Alpha chapter. The only alumnae in good standing initiated at the UGA chapter with the maiden name of Starr was initiated in 1937. That means that Twinkle is either not in good standing or she looks good for her age.

Check the lost sister search, she may have changed her name. A woman with that maiden name initiated in 1971, and another in 1948 at Gamma Alpha. I won't put anything else out there to first or married names, but I think we figured it out, kind of.

IHeartUGA maybe you can check with the UGA Alumni Office, find her current information, and get her OFF the Lost Sister List.

I forgot about the Lost Sister Search. Glad I looked because a couple of my sisters for which I have addresses are "lost".

I know a Sandy Beach (married name). People call her sisters Cocoa and Pebbles. The dates don't match, though, darn! I would so love to tease her about that!
