If your can't have it pierced at your place of employment obviously you wouldn't want anyone there to be able to see it but then once you're on your own time (nights and weekends) you can change the stud. When I had to do teaching placements in college I didn't want it to be visible but when I was getting ready to go out to a party or chill with friends I would want people to be able to see it.

Well, I was managing in a restaurant, and alot of my "kids" have piercings, and they all have to have spacers now. But I am about to start looking for a corporate HR or Training position at a restaurant, and I don't know if that will be ok or not. Thanks for the tips so far!!!

Work, family outings, presentations in class, etc.. anywhere that I would want to look professional in.

I just got my nose pierced - i just have a little diamond stud.

I also have the standard one hole in each ear.

Question: When I go on law school interviews in the fall, should i leave the little stud in (honestly I'm very conservative looking even with the nose stud) or should I get a clear thing and put it in so you cant tell I have it pierced? Will law schools judge me on it, or is it just something I need to worry about when I try to get a real job?

I don't think law schools would care too much at all... I can't imagine why they would care. Law schools are pretty diverse, and the education field in general is pretty liberal.

Now when you go to look for a legal job, I would probably get rid of it. Law is a very conservative field, in general. And even if you get a spacer or something clear, when you're in a close up interview you can still tell something's in their mouth.

One thing that would apply to any situation: if you tend to play with it, click it around in your mouth, etc. I would suggest getting rid of it, because you'll likely do that during your interview, and it's horribly distracting and would be seen as terribly unprofessional. I know not all people with tongue rings do that, but I know quite a few who drive me nuts by playing with it, so be careful.

Danielle thanks for the advice, but one problem - I have my nose pierced not my tongue! You can get this little plastic stud to wear that is barely noticeable and if you do notice it it looks like a little pimple, plus you can put makeup on it to match the rest of your skin. Do you guys think I should get one of those?

Still wouldn't worry about it for law school. No one cares what you look like there, lol, until it's time to interview. You may want to talk to the career services people at the law school you go to, they can probably give you a better idea of what's acceptable in the area. But if they're anything like my CS people, they'd tell you to take it out.

I'd still be iffy about it for working in a firm... guess it's kinda like the rush threads about whether or not to take out piercings :)

I know that when I get to the point of interviewing people for a firm someday, I wouldn't care about a very subtle piercing. I'd probably care if someone came in with the bull-ring in their nose- yuck, but something small, no. But some of the older, very conservative partners might. They might personally have a problem with it, think that a judge may have a problem with it, or be worried about how clients would view you.

You've got some time to think it over though :)

yeah i basically got it intending to keep it just until I have an internship after my first year of law school... and if I happen to intern somewhere liberal, definitely take it out for the second summer when you work at a firm usually... but I loove it and I want to keep it as long as possible!

Yep, just finishing up my second year (2 finals to go). I was a research assistant my first summer, so it wouldn't have mattered. A lot of people work for a judge or small firm their first summer- if you end up doing an externship with a judge, i'd definately say take it out.

Thanks! My LSATs are conveniently out of the way - i took them in february - and now I just have to apply to ten zillion law schools in the fall when I get home from being abroad!

although i know nothing about law schools (i'm a teacher) i would say err on the side of caution and just take it out for any interviews. you can just put it right back in afterward but you just never know the type of person interviewing you. they might get a bad vibe from it or look down on it. or they might not. but are you willing to take that chance with something so important to you?

Make sure to use an image host which allows remote loading (aka hotlinking), so people can see the picture via another site.

Though, that site may have it enabled and the pic may just be offline or not public since you gave a link to the page not the image here.
