DrPhil said it "didn't compute" that DD has more of a variety. I was simply pointing out that they do. But trust me, I'm also loyal to a select few kinds, regardless of where I'm buying a donut.

You've obviously never been to a DD in New England ;)

I don't even need the chocolate. Gimme dat glaze!

What's better than hot, fresh KK? NOTHING.

We have very different definitions of tasty, apparently.

The thing with Krispy Kreme donuts is they really aren't that bad tasting, it's just when they're not fresh, after they come out of a microwave, it's like chewing on rubber.

It's all about that Krispy Kream. especially the creullers.

AGDee 06-05-2014 04:22 PM

Perhaps it comes down to whether you like glazed donuts or not. I'm definitely a "not" in that department. DD glazed are nasty too. All glazed donuts are nasty. They should be doused in lots of powdered sugar or frosted and they should be filled with lots of yummy stuff- chocolate frosted lemon filled, powdered sugar with chocolate frosting filling, boston cream/custard, powdered sugar with strawberry filling... yum. Glaze is just... flavorless.

TonyB06 06-05-2014 04:28 PM

Dunkin Donuts are good whenever you're having them. Particularly, their lemon-filled donut, which makes you feel good about life and its culinary possibilities. Even DD's basic donut is superior to its lowly Krispy Kreme counterpart.

KK is alright (in a lame donut is better than no donut kind of way), but they're at the "best" when they're hot. After two hours, that KK sugar tastes hard-baked.

that's funny. I could really do without the powered sugar -- have never liked it.

All joking aside, I think you're partly right. I love glaze. Icing on a doughnut is okay, depending on the flavor, but not nearly as good to me as glaze. I can't stand powdered sugar on doughnuts—it tastes too dry to me. The only filling I like is cream—not Boston cream, just what KK would call "Kreme." Otherwise, filling in doughnuts is just plain gross to me.

I say "partly right" because, as I think I've said upthread, I also think it depends a lot on whether you like yeast doughnuts or cake doughnuts. I love yeast doughnuts, while cake doughnuts do nothing for me. Given that, KK is going to win over DD for me anyday.
