new trailer
I saw a new trailer last night during L&O.
The Alphas stepping scene has been removed. The trailer shows a brief shot of famous greeks, with MLK featured prominently. The message is tradition and brotherhood. ETA: Here's the video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-fA1Qf51E0 |
Racism or concern for gang violence?

I heard it was good and had positive elements. I assume they made some changes due to the boycott so the updates added more positivity to it.
The flying steppers was supposedly a small component of the movie so I might not be so annoyed afterall. Needless to say, I'm not waiting for DVD and am going to see it this weekend. He wants to see it and knows nothing about the "controversy" or former boycott. So I won't ruin it for him and will go in with an open mind. At least It'll be good entertainment for us. We both know all about Greekdom and other social issues so we don't view movies to be educated. :D |
Just came back from the movie. I liked it.
1. It's Drumline plus You Got Served. Exactly. The plot was more like Drumline but better. Dude reminded me of Nick Cannon's character the whole time. 2. Lead actor and the lead prophyte from Theta Nu Theta were cute enough. The Darren's Dance Grooves dude wasn't. He needs facial hair...BADLY. 3. Meagan Goode always looks SPESHUL. 4. The stepping in the beginning was wack. It got MUCH better in the middle and end. 5. I saw Delta symbols in there and I knew one of the Delta chapters stepping because I saw them perform that show a year ago. I also saw a glimpse of KKPsi letters real quick and the Sigmas were stepping in front of their shield but you couldn't really see it. But it was a good idea for other letters to be removed from the movie--many of us know who the guys with the crimson and cream canes are and who the black and gold dudes doing the "train" are. 6. There were inspirational moments in it but it maintained its entertainment value. 7. It kept my attention waaaay more than Dreamgirls did. |
Just came back from seeing the movie and I agree with you Chaos. The guys that wrote the movie are FAMU alums and came through the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. There were also some Deltas from FAMU as well as the Ques that were stepping in the movie (I may be wrong on the Ques). It was an overall entertaining movie with some positive elements.

I'll make it three...
DSTChaos' synopsis was on the money. I enjoyed the film "for its purpose" as well. :)

I am going to see it tomorrow.

WOW!!! Also wow@mccoyred concerning the shared history. It's not like it was the greatest. |
I have not seen the movie but it definitely something HIGH on my priority list. I LOVE STEPPING. I STEP HARD!!! I mean I can outstep some dudes! People would travel to my school just to see me step cause I was so damn crunk. Stepping is such a big thing to me, so I already knew that I would relate to this movie. I heard it was good and I sure can;t wait to see it.:p :D

Good flick
I saw the movie and yes, it was a blend of "Drumline" and "You Got Served".
Entertaining, kept my attention, and yes IMHO it was way too predictable. The traditional Black Greeks were definately in it, but in a genericized way; hence the generic (read: no identifying letters or symbols) Phi Beta Sigma sheild. I saw every NPHC org "representing" in it except for Iota and Zeta. And Meagan Good? Well, quite honestly I found her more in the film as eye candy and not much else. Her acting skills are a'ight, but not very impressive IMHO. So would I go see it again? Yeah I would. |
