Oh, you hope not. Then who would the Horns rag on on Orangebloods.com?

P.S. I lived in Texas for 20 years, so although I'm a Seminole Grad, the Horns are my #2 favorite team.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any sanctions at all. Even the pro-aggie media up here is saying that it's likely that the NCAA will be satisfied with the self-imposed restrictions (expulsion of all involved, severing ties with the donor).

Really, even given the recent problems with other teams (men's BB)?

really, OU Athletic department has not had a good last 18 or so months - first the racist comments by the baseball manager, the Kelvin Sampson violations and subsequent leaving for IU, and now Bomar...

1) Racist comments -- coach was fired, almost immediately.

2) Recruiting violations -- these do not affect Oklahoma since Sampson took his restrictions with him to IU. You can't actually expect the compliance director to investigate the cell phone records of coaches who know the rules -- asking this is unreasonable. Coaches should know the rules. Sampson did it, now he's facing his own personal sanctions. The institution was employing the same oversight as anyone else -- the coach just didn't feel like following the rules. I can say that I was disgusted with his behavior, and I'm glad he's gone despite having Capel who is as much an unknown factor as you can have as a coach (but Castiglione has done pretty well with his hires, so I'll withhold judgment).

3) Bomar/Quinn: Dismissed from the team. The compliance office's own internal investigation turned this up which means that they were on the ball. Instead of sweeping it under the rug a la Ohio State/USC and trying to minimize the impact on their roster, they dismissed the players from the team. Had it been A.D., or Stoops' own mother, they would have been dismissed. Again, the head of the NCAA has already publicly said that he was very impressed with Oklahoma's reaction. At this point, it's doubtful that Oklahoma will face any further restrictions due to the fact that it self-investigated, and has dealt with the issue as well as anyone possibly could (instead of doing what some teams do and waiting for the disgruntled booster [see: Reggie Bush] to come forward and say that, for example, he had bought the player's family a house).

Harrison who??

LINCOLN - Even before Harrison Beck's seat in the Nebraska locker room had grown cold, a new quarterback appears ready to take his place on the depth chart.
http://www.omaha.com/imglib/mainsite...hildebrand.jpg Brian Hildebrand

Former blue-chipper Brian Hildebrand of Corona, Calif., is set to enroll at NU this month and begin practice as soon as Saturday, his junior-college position coach said.
"He's going to go in there and help Nebraska," said Mike Moschetti, the quarterbacks coach at Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College. "He's going to battle somebody for that No. 2 spot right away."

Hildebrand, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore, would be eligible to play immediately with three seasons to complete his career. He confirmed Tuesday that he is headed to Nebraska later this week. He must complete a final exam Thursday to finish work on his associate's degree. Hildebrand said NU coaches asked him to withhold further comment on his transfer until his juco coursework is completed. Moschetti was under no such restriction.

The coach, who started at quarterback for Colorado in 1998 and 1999, helped connect Hildebrand with the Huskers. Moschetti keeps close ties with several members of the NU staff - notably tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Shawn Watson, who served as quarterbacks coach at CU during Moschetti's senior season.

"From what coach Watson has told me, the (NU) offense is a lot like what we ran at CU," Moschetti said. "There's just different wording, so I've been going over a few things with Brian."
Nebraska was involved in recruiting Hildebrand even before Beck quit the team. His departure provides more of an opportunity.

Hildebrand redshirted at Oregon State in 2004. He left Oregon State after one semester for Mt. Sac, where he started five games last season before suffering a torn ligament in his right thumb. He finished the year 56-of-99 passing for 791 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions.

"He's got a great body and great tools, a real strong arm," Mt. Sac head coach Bob Jastrab said. "He was really starting to do well for us, and then he got hurt."
At Nebraska, only three scholarship quarterbacks remain - senior starter Zac Taylor, sophomore Joe Ganz and sophomore Beau Davis. Hildebrand would arrive in Lincoln after taking a path similar to Taylor, who attended Wake Forest out of high school and started one season in junior college.

Hildebrand was an Elite 11 quarterback three years ago before his senior season. Rivals.com ranked him as the nation's No. 12 pro-style QB in 2004, behind the likes of Rhett Bomar (Oklahoma), Chad Henne (Michigan), Brian Brohm (Louisville), Drew Weatherford (Florida State) and Erik Ainge (Tennessee).

Moschetti said Hildebrand was nearly set to enroll at Colorado last winter, but then Gary Barnett was fired and new coach Dan Hawkins was not interested. Hildebrand also received interest in the spring from UCLA. For the most part, though, he was overlooked because of the thumb injury and his academic situation in one semester at Oregon State.

"He's a big-time quarterback," Moschetti said. "I think this whole thing is a blessing in disguise. There's no better situation in the country than at Nebraska. And this kid can play with anybody."
Just one of the reasons we brought Callahan and staff to Nebraska: RECRUITING. Rumors are Harrison was aware of the new QB coming to fall camp, and already being at #4 on the depth chart pissed him off...

Looks like ESPN has Iowa in its Final Four fantasy playoff bracket.

DeltAlum 08-25-2006 09:12 AM

Slight hijack.

Did anyone else note that the venerable old "ABC Sports" brand is going away.

Starting sometime in the near future, it will be "ESPN on ABC."

DH mentioned that to us recently and I thought it was strange.

I'd like everyone to go look at ESPN.com's predictions, and look how my Auburn Tigers swept the experts picks for both the SEC west and SEC champion. Half of them picked AU to play in the title game, which scares me, we're not a good team when hyped in the media.

War Damn Eagle :D

sdbeta1 08-25-2006 09:32 PM

Let's hope it is a good year with two undefeateds squaring off for the championship, preferably teams without recent Championship glory.

valkyrie 08-25-2006 09:53 PM

1. My wish is that Iowa kicks ass.
2. My second wish is that Iowa plays in a bowl game that is not at asscrack A.M. on New Year's Day. Please be kind to us here in the west, thanks.
3. NIU will beat Ohio State. THERE. I SAID IT. Garrett Wolfe, represent.

macallan25 08-25-2006 09:59 PM

We are going to beat Ohio State as well. Sorry, guys....but we have an absolute realistic and very likely shot at going undefeated. Ohio State is our only true test......and we play them in Austin.....they have 0 defense and lost their starting badass tightend. Ohio State will be nothing more than a decent team with a good offense.

Decent Team with Good Offense = Texas Tech. Texas Tech = Perennial 2 - 3 loss team.

While realizing that a Buckeye is a tasetless, scentless nut with little social value, I would't overlook them this year.

Kinnick Stadium, Big 10 Night Game, Buck the Fuckeyes, College Gameday, ABC/ESPN nationally telecast, undefeated Iowa squad, pink locker rooms, a completely wasted student section from over 12 hours of tailgating...pure madness
