Another place I think is good, but overrated: Maggiano's. I like the food, but I think it's way overpriced if you don't do the family dinner thing.

Couldn't agree with you more.

CiCi's Pizza - I ain't into all you can eat buffets, the food looks like it's been on display all day, even when it's fresh out the oven. More often than not, buffet food tastes stale and/or burned.

White Castle I used to love as a kid; it was tasty and inexpensive; nowadays it gives me bubbleguts something awful.

Ugh... CiCi's... I thought I escaped them when I came back to Michigan.. then one opened up down the street from school. Fortunately, it only lasted a few months :) But in high school, CiCi's opened up after Friday night football games just for us. It was great at first! Then, the prices went up, the managers got pissier, and the food quality took a major plunge.

Kind of the same situation with White Castle. I grew up LOVING it. Now, the prices have gone up (even though the prices aren't high, they're not reasonable) and it just isn't that great.. nor are the after effects.. (one of my brothers says 'sliders slide in and sliders slide out')
But hey, I still get the craving every few weeks.

Have any of you heard of Jersey Mikes?

There's a Jersey Mike's here in Columbia, and they're about to open up another. I remember being in high school and going a good 20 minutes out of the way just to get a Jersey Mikes sub for lunch.

Chick Fil A has never disappointed me. ever. I'll miss Chick Fil A when I move in the fall :(

Moe's is alright, but Barberitos is waaaay better. Do y'all have Barberitos or is it a GA thing?

I've heard of that - I could swear I saw one either around here or on our way to NJ.

Sounds like I'm just in the wrong state for Jersey Mikes. Shame, really. They make really good subs. Oh well.

Bojangles.

In honor of this thread, I got a sausage biscuit and a ham biscuit at Bo's this morning after my physical (and the bloodwork fast). Got to get them in while I can before the cholesterol report comes back.

I'm not a big fan of all you can eat pizza (CiCi's or knockoffs)... rubber! I also hate BK, which tastes like a soggy charcoal briquette.

We have Bob Evans in FL. The only one I've ever seen is in Lakeland. But I think there are more. We do have a lot of old folks that like to eat those things. I've never eaten there, but who doesn't enjoy simple oatmeal or grits? Especially when your teeth are giving out?

There are still some Bob Evans locations in North Florida.

When I was little, I refused to eat at Po' Folks because I thought it was for poor people.

Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean there aren't locations around here.

Arthur Treacher's & Popeye's, for starters. I think we need a thread on late, great restaurant chains that are no longer with us.

=====================

Popeye's is still going strong in a number of states scattered all over the US. They are also found in the UK and Germany. One of my cousins in New Orleans throws a Popeyes and Champagne Party during Mardi Gras for an "After the Ball is Over" very late party in which the menu consists very simply of buckets of Popeyes and a small ocean of Veuve Cliquot. There is something about a large group of people in ball gowns and white tie and tails standing around gnawing on Popeyes and guzzeling the fizz. Ah, New Orleans!

Now, as to fast food in general, it seems to me that the only time one should choose a fast food joint would be when you are on an Interstate Highway, you have been driving for what seems like forever, and you see a sign announcing "last exit for 175 miles" and there are notices for gas and fast food at that exit.

Yeah, there are Popeye's in Florida and here in NYC. I didn't know it had gone anywhere.

The one in CT that I've been to is doing really well (it's packed whenever I go), and they opened one in Boston (near Fenway Park and Boston U) within the last 5 years.

BabyPiNK_FL 06-16-2009 02:45 PM

There are enough Popeye's in South Florida (not a lot, but enough). I also ate at one in Atlanta (it was in this horrible place next to the metro where people were standing around and a woman was begging with her baby who was sitting in a very nice designer stroller )

Munchkin03 06-16-2009 03:14 PM

Totally OT, but maybe the stroller was donated, or a present. Just because she had the stroller doesn't mean she paid for it. In fact, I don't know anyone who's paid for their baby's first stroller--usually it's a shower present.

Popeye's opened up around Pgh I want to say about 5 years ago, but ever since then it seems they've been opening and closing and opening and closing - the same locations. I think the franchise head for this area just sucks. Same with Burger King. The only BK in the city proper is in the South Side where drunk people will eat anything.
