Good for you-best wishes on your recovery/rehap.

I should have mensioned in my posting that there were two people at
blood bank giving for the very first time.
Both said that thought it was the right thing to do.

Hey, Jon, you should organize a GC blood drive - but remember, you need cool t-shirts and lots of snacks!

I think I just tried to ;)
I received a nice t-shirt and snacks from the blood bank yesterday.
So nice in fact, I am going back next Saturday.

A+. I'm usually able to give, but this month I was rejected due to my low iron. It's an incentive, though, for me to maintain a healthy diet.

I really hate it when I get rejected because of low iron. I know it shouldn't, but it makes me feel . . .oh, defective!

Me, my brother, and my father are A+. My mother is A-.

Good grief SWTXBelle! Good luck on Monday and hope it's not serious!

I'm A+ btw:)

AB+ 3%
That's me. I donate plasma now. It's good because it's universal.
Quote:

What is Plasma?
Plasma is the fluid portion of blood -- the river which transports red blood cells, white cells and platelets through the body to nourish and protect tissues and organs. This pale yellow liquid is also rich in minerals and substances which help control bleeding.
Quote:

Why is There a Special Need for AB Plasma?
In addition to being the rarest blood type (only about 3 percent of the population has type AB blood) AB plasma is the universal plasma type. AB plasma can be safely given to patients with any blood type.
I used to work @ a blood bank. I miss those free post-donation donuts:p

O Negative, the universal donor, but lately my blood has been going straight to wounded soldiers (hopefully) since I donate through the Armed Services Blood Program. I tried doing the plasma thing once, but that actually made me faint, which didn't make sense to me since the non-plasma portion of my blood was being pumped back into me.

It's been known to happen. Last Saturday I had to take a long nap in the afternoon after I gave a double.

The platelet donation is way different from blood donation. They take out some blood, spin it around a centrifuge, then give it back to you mixed with blood thinner. The "giving back" part was really weird ... I got shivery (despite the blankets and numerous hot water bottles they give you), and felt a weird almost burning feeling in my arm on the return. It took me NINETY minutes to donate lol. Apparently I was a bit of a slow poke. That wasn't fun for my back, I can tell you that.

I felt really weird afterward too ... and here I was thinking it'd be easier than whole blood because I wasn't losing red blood cells. I find donating whole blood a lot easier for me, so I'm not sure which program I'll stick to.

But the snack table is win in both places, so it's all good lol.

That's the one thing I don't miss about donating platelets.

I tried to give blood this weekend, but my blood pressure was too high. I had been taking Aleve, and didn't realize that it counter acted with my BP meds. Anyway, I'm AB-, wich is 1% of the population. :)

lovespink88 09-10-2009 06:12 PM

I have no idea what mine is (I should probably find out), but this thread made me giggle...a family friend of ours who is known to have a bit of a grouchy, pessimistic personality has the blood type B Positive! haha!

WCsweet<3 09-10-2009 09:57 PM

I'm B+ as is my brother. 9% of the population.
Father is B+. Mother is O+. Boyfriend is O +or- I'm not entirely sure...
I found out since I was going to donate bone marrow to the brother.

I can't give blood so I help run the blood drives at my mother's Church. It is actually probably good that I can't donate since if a needle touches me I get hysteric and that reaction has improved with age...

I am A+
Dunno about DH though
