-SUNY-Binghamton

This is wicked exciting! Cornell is where Alpha Phi Alpha was founded (as I know you know) and has a long history of NPHC chapter presence. Currently only Alpha, Delta, and Zeta are here, although cursory googling tells me most if not all of the rest of the Divine Nine have been here at some point. I imagine it's hard to find advisors in very white Upstate New York, and Syracuse and Binghamton are an hour from Ithaca in different directions. I hope travel times don't dissuade interested students from joining.

Generally with these city wide chapters as they're sometimes called, the schools closest to one another will be the ones to interact the most. All of the schools are at least within 1 hour of one another, with Cornell and Utica being the furthest at 2 hours.

Kappa Alpha Order at Davidson College(NC) has voted to surrender their charter. The Sigma chapter had been chartered in 1880.

Interesting greek life on campus. There are NIC fraternities, NPHC fraternities and sororities and a Latinx sorority, but no NPC or local sororities.

They do have "Eating Houses" listed in greek life.

Also interesting that you can "cluster" with three other people when trying to join an eating house which insures that all four of your join the same one.

And after this, I hope the girls will stick together and find good ways to enjoy their college experiences. It's a shame that their sorority's doors have closed.

I'd never heard of Delta Kappa Delta before, and looking at their Wikipedia page I see that they distinguish between chapters (i.e. at Baylor) and associate chapters (i.e. at NYU). Just out of curiosity, does anyone here know what the difference is?

Maybe it has to do with number of members in the chapter? The article says that they regained active chapter status. The article further explains that they need ten members for active status - they had four members and initiated eight more.

My guess? Associate chapter = chapter that has not received a charter.

Many organizations are moving away from calling new chapters "colonies". Somewhere in GC is a thread I started talking about that and asking what different groups call their colonies that are working toward a charter. The most common:

associate chapter
emerging chapter
provisional chapter

Sigma Chi re-chartered this past weekend at Louisiana State University. Congratulations to all the new members.
