Her roomie's sister didn't do Rush this year. She had an internship in Colorado and is arriving today. Big reason I think. Plus the pics on instagram of her weed paraphenalia didn't help either I'm sure. Do they ever learn??

That'll do it.

Yeah

My d also has three today and one is her #1. I will say she did not have any preconceived preferences until after first cut. As an out of state student With little connections i think this was a good attitude. She said she is a good fit and likes all three. She is a very happy young lady!

Congratulations! I hope she has a wonderful pref night.

I totally agree Just interested. My personal opinion is that if there is a legacy that you know is going to be released (grades, poor decisions) that it is better to release her as early in the recruitment process as your GLO legacy policy allows. This gives her a better chance (hopefully) at maximizing her other options and finding a home.

Of course, it is hard for the mom, sister, grandmother to see it from this angle...as a national officer I hear a lot more of "I can't believe she was cut before skit day" rather than "I can't believe that she was cut!".

And yes, I know that the correct term is "release" but I don't think I have ever heard a mom use that word!

Certainly, you have more experience and knowledge than I do, but wouldn't these late cut situations come about with legacies that you know don't know will be releases? Aren't these probably the ones who the chapter really does want to consider, but ultimately isn't sure that they want to be on the first bid list ahead of girls that they maybe want more. Or maybe they are the legacies that wouldn't fit on the first bid list if there are that many going through.

And this is an example of something that will get you released at pref! Or just before....

ladybug12 08-12-2012 04:07 PM

UGAalum, good point. I can't really comment further without giving out too much information....

I know a situation in which a double in-house legacy was cut at the last minute. No one could bring themselves to tell the sisters that they wanted to cut her so they found out from a hysterical call from their sister. One quit immediately. The sister pledged another house and last I heard, was happy.

I don't know how you can bring this up delicately to a sorority member that you plan to cut her sister.

KSUViolet06 08-12-2012 04:18 PM

^^^^I've said for a long time that sister legacy issues are harder to deal with than moms. At least you don't have to be in the same room as mom right after you cut her daughter.

And in-house sister situations are truly the worst. I assume the PNM's sisters had to leave while they were discussing her but surely they were aware of the serious issues that must have led to her cutting.

or live with her for the next couple of years...

My daughter is in her third party now. She loved both of her first two and said she has no idea how to rank them. I told her to keep an open mind for sorority #3 and then follow her heart. It speaks really well of Auburn's system that these girls love all of their pref chapters.
