I don't know what they're thinking--having Bid Day the first day of school. Do you think that any of those girls will be in any mental shape to listen to their professors?
|
it is absurd!
|
Agreed on the timing of bid day and the first day of classes. Very poor planning. The girls are exhausted and riddled with anxiety. And what about the poor girls who learned this morning that they did not receive bids? Talk about a terrible start to the semester. :( I believe it's also bid day for fraternities.
|
But on the other hand, who would want to sit around for a day or two after not receiving a bid? While I hate that my daughter is exhausted, last year I was glad that there was something to take her mind off the process if she had not gotten in.
|
Is this maybe to make it easier on out of state students so they're not stuck there for days if they don't get a bid?
ugamama, we posted at the same time. :) |
ugamama and 33girl -- those are very good points and could very well play into the decision. I guess there isn't an ideal scenario for everyone. When it comes to recruitment, you just hold on and, hopefully, ride to the end. :)

It is probably to keep Moms from taking over the campus HaHa! It is a phenomena in Texas that the moms camp out near campus during rush in case their daughters don't get a bid and then to celebrate with them if they do.

My cousin and her friend didn't get released!!!

And yes, I went to workshop right after I finished my 8am final. :) |
Never read Pledged but was asked numerous times by my friends whether I was going to Georgia to be with my daughter on bid day. Base on their facebook pages, they were there with their daughters on bid day at UT, A&M and TCU. So no I am basing this on first hand knowledge. I don't really have an opinion on it. There was a big part of me that wanted to be with my daughter on that day (just in case). And if it a tradition at a school then that is great.

I was in a sorority at UGA and at the time our parents did not attend Bid Day. It was a time especially for pledges and sisters to bond. There were other days set aside for parents to spend their day with the sorority. I don't recall any sororities at uga having families there. Things could have changed since then.
|
We've discussed families coming to Bid Day here a lot lately! I think it gets bigger every year at Auburn but this is a big deal with family events at the sorority houses at several universities, SEC schools in particular.
