How do I start a colony of a national sorority?
I went through formal rush at my college(we only have 6!) and did not find one that I imagained what a sorority would be like (I do know that there were about 30 girls who did not find a sorority they liked)...so I began to surf the internet for national sorority websites. I found a few that I would love to have at my college. Does anyone out there have any info on starting a colony? I am specifically interested in ADPi,KATheta,KKGamma and Tri-Delt. Is it hard/easy? Are the nationals willing to expand? Spring semseter will be here soon...please help!!!

I can't speak for all GLO's, but my fraternity (it's coed) loves the opportunity to expand. I would suggest returning to those sororities' national websites & contacting them that way. Let them know why you are interested in them, and they will help you from there.
It is a bit of work, but nothing you can't handle. Most school's will require you to have a mission statement & also a minimum number of students planning on participating. As soon as you decide which GLO you want to start a colony as, GO TALK TO THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR. If you don't do this, you can inadvertantly start a subrosa chapter, and get on the school's bad side from the start. Happy searching & best of luck!

Branwen -
Adding another NPC sorority to your campus must be coordinated through your campus Greek Life office and the College Panhellenic Council. If you already have a number of girls interested in bringing a 7th group to campus, you must present yourselves to the Panhellenic as an interest group. They must evaluate the need to add another sorority to the campus and they must approve the addition. If it is decided that another group will be added, the local Panhellenic will contact the NPC and the NPC will send out a bulletin to the 26 NPC member fraternities, advertising the possibility for expansion on your campus. The NPC members that are not represented on your campus can either accept or decline the invitation to expand. If they accept, the college Panhellenic will then limit the number of groups that are allowed to present on campus and these groups will give expansion presentations to the Panhellenic and the Extenstion Committe AND the interest group, if there is one in place.
Please contact your Greek Life office or the NPC for more info. http://www.greeklife.org/npc

hey!!! i just went through the whole colonization and chartering process.. go to your greek life advisor (if you have one.. if not, go to your student activities director) find out what the university requires.. then go to the various orginazations..(i don't think that there's any org. that would possibly be opposed to expanding... just like all our national officers said during our countless meetings, there's NOTHING more exciting for them then to see their org. bloom even more) after getting all the details, recruit recruit recruit.. (some have minimum numbers required for chartering.. as a risk management maneuver) after that, you and your future sisters begin the process of colonizing, through which you will be guided by your national office. god willing you'll have a group of girls that are willing to stick through it (it does take time), the work is hard, but SO incredibly worth it.. there's nothing like being able to make your own traditions....Best of luck on ALL of your endeavors

lookin 4 help on bringing a new chapter to my school
*wants to start a chapter*
How do I form a new Sorority?
____________________________________
Since you mentioned NPC groups in your post, here goes:
In approaching a National to come to your campus, you would write to the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) at www.npcwomen.org to their Extention Committee.
Basically, no group can come to your campus, unless the campus is declared open for extension by the NPC.
I copied this from a website, which should help you:
________________
What can I do if I have a special interest in having ______ on a campus?
NPC guidelines provide for orderly extension procedures. _____ may express interest in colonization by filing a letter of interest with a college or university. However, no contact with students may be initiated by the Fraternity unless the campus is officially open for extension.
_______ alumnae interest and opinions are very important to us when we consider extension opportunities. Alumnae may advise the Fraternity of your interest and your recommendation will be carefully considered. We want to hear from you!
How is NPC (National Panhellenic Conference) involved with the extension process?
The Extension Committee of the National Panhellenic Conference serves as a clearinghouse for colleges, Panhellenics, and individual fraternities in the field of extension. All NPC groups have agreed upon fair and orderly extension procedures, which are directed by the NPC extension committee. _________ carefully follows these guidelines and cooperates fully with both the local college administration and NPC.
The Extension Committee of NPC will assist any campus wishing to add an NPC sorority chapter or establish a Panhellenic system. The Extension Committee will also assist any local sorority wishing to affiliate with _________ or any other National Panhellenic Conference member group. Any individual, college Panhellenic, or local sorority needing informationshould contact:

How does a local sorority or interest group become a ________chapter?
__________does accept local sororities/interest groups as colonies. However, the process differs depending on the local situation. Again, we follow NPC guidelines.
How are new members chosen for a colony?
Colony members may be members of a local sorority seeking international affiliation, or new members may be selected by a Fraternity team of officers participating in a recruitment effort on a campus. Sometimes _____ is the only group colonizing on a campus; sometimes __________ participates in a multiple colonization in concert with other NPC groups.
Do we ever have the chance to reestablish a closed chapter?
Yes, and often we have done so. However, this is entirely dependent upon the campus situation. According to NPC guidelines, the invitation for recolonization must come from the campus Panhellenic.
What is my first step if I have an interest group on a campus and want to pursue affiliation with ____________?
It is unethical for an NPC fraternity to establish a chapter on a campus without the approval of the proper authority on that campus. The "proper authority" in most cases is the college Panhellenic on that campus. In the case of a campus without an organized college Panhellenic, the administration would constitute "proper authority".
The local interest group must receive the approval from the proper authority on their campus before pursuing affiliation with _______________. Please contact the National Panhellenic Conference Extension Committee with any questions about this process.

First, I don't understand how you can decide in a week
What sorority would be like
You've never been in one before
And what you've seen has only been glimpses
You might want to go to COB events of these groups
To make sure that you're just not getting a week of intenseness
And just being unable to see where you fit in
Then, if you don't see what you're looking for after 2 months of going to events of every group
Go and research ALL 26 of the sororities
Don't go by colors, who has the prettiest girls. . .
Otherwise, you're just becoming 'what sorority would be like'
And you'll find yourself losing a chapter as soon as you get it started
