Southern girls know bad manners when they see them:
Drinking straight out of a can.
Not sending thank you notes.
Velvet after February.

A winning smile.
That unforgettable, Southern drawl.
> > > >

Southern girls have a distinct way with fond expressions:
"Y'all come back!"
"Well, bless your heart."
"Drop by when you can."
"How's your mother?"
"Love your hair."
"Well, shut my mouth." ((I added this one, it's my cousin's fav.)

Now you run along, Sugah, and send this to some other Girls

FarmHouse adores G.R.I.T.S., "cream of wheat" (yankee grits), and anyplace you can get one from the other.

I have a friend here in Maryland who is born and raised in Lancaster, South Carolina. She was telling me once how her family was suspicious of her now-husband when they started dating. She said they were worried about her marrying a Yankee. I noted that her husband is from Annapolis, Maryland, how could they consider him a Yankee?

She looked me right in the eye and said, "Tracy, to my family, someone from North Carolina is a Yankee!"

Well, my hubby is a pseudo Eskimo, i.e., born in Alaska before it became a State. Then he had the audacity to move to Tonnawanda/Buffalo, NY. We met when he lived in Alabama but he will always be a Yankee to me...

But hey, give the guy credit, he pulls for the Braves!

(KR, I got the email from an AGD living in Annapolis, lol.)

I've never considered myself a southern girl (b/c I'm a city girl--Miami!) but when one of my sisters wanted to hook me up with one of her friends (who I ended up dating for awhile) she described me as "a true southern girl." Whereas I was never comfortable with that, this time it was such a great compliment. Southern girls, even though they may be teased sometimes, are such ladies.

PS: Have any of you ever gone on KA's Old South formal? My best sister (what do you call your best friend who is your sister?) went, and I thought it was so cute b/c now she's an official Dixie Darling.
