William Woods U Building New Sorority Circle Housing

The article (link below) includes an artist's rendering of what the Circle will look like:

http://www.fultonsun.com/articles/20.../171news03.txt

excerpt:

" A 71.5 percent increase in on-campus enrollment during the last decade has prompted William Woods University to build a new residential complex to help alleviate a housing shortage at its Fulton campus.

New details have been announced for the three-building complex announced last month. The complex, known as Sorority Circle, will house the four existing campus sororities. They are Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Chi Omega and Delta Gamma. . . .

The sorority complex will be located just east of the McNutt Campus Center, which is built in the shape of a geodesic dome.

. . . Barnett said the four sororities are now housed in university-owned buildings and the university’s Greek community includes from 35 to 45 percent of the students.

Barnett said the individuality of each sorority will be preserved through separate entries and individual common areas for studying, socializing and conducting meetings. . . . "

My collegiate chapter's House Dedication is this weekend. I have some other plans shortly afterward, so I'll be kind of in a rush, but I'm going to try and get some good pics!

This is my first time seeing the inside (haven't seen inside since it was just a frame, no drywall) and I am so excited to see it all!

UGA Tri Delta Chapter House Renovation

Winter view of renovated Tri Delta chapter house at University of Georgia. It is wheelchair friendly with many security and safety features. There is still landscaping work to be completed in the garden area behind the chapter house.

Reception Room of UGA Tri Delta Chapter House

The chapter house has 24,321 square feet and houses 67 members, less than half of the active members. The entry is marble and features a curving staircase to the second floor.

The Gamma Phi Beta remodel of the house at Purdue looks great. I looks like a third story is being added in the process. Is that correct?

The house already has three stories. It only looks like two from that side of the house because part of it is built into a hill. We're just adding the stone facade and painting some of the exterior for now.

Wow that is really ultra modern! I hope you can some pix of the interior! Is that house typical for sororities at Purdue?

Ask and ye shall receive: a picture of our downstairs informal living room!

Our house is typical for the area in which it's located. Tower Acres - which is the "Greek Row" on the north side of campus - was primarily built in the 1970s...and the house architecture definitely reflects that. Hence, our remodel along with several other houses over the past few years to shed the "Brady Bunch" look.

Purdue has so many sororities that were founded way back in the early 1900s all the way up to the late 1980s, so house looks vary greatly.

What did 1970s architects have against windows? It's like they were building a fallout shelter.

My high school was the same way; it moved to its current location in 1970 and has virtually no windows.

I was told that it was because of the energy crisis in the 70's.

My high school only had slits for windows, and they claimed "energy crisis" then, too. You can play "find the windows" below:

In searching for a picture, I found out that Ron Paul had gone to my high school. Coolness!
