Advice please... *sigh*

I am the official webmaster of my sorority. I work under the PR Chair and she and I ended up having some personal differences that made it difficult to work together and a lot of things aren't getting done pre-rush.

I was asked to be the webmaster last semester and was told that writing and updating the site would be my job until I graduate in 2004. I wrote all the code, and created all the images for our website, then uploaded it onto a free server. Well, the PR girl got a webmaster friend of hers to copy the site and upload it onto a domain that she bought for our house. Then she proceeded to e-mail our list server and tell everyone that she did everything. I got mad, then e-mailed everyone back saying that she did nothing but put down money.

I do understand that what we both did was petty and stupid, however, now she won't discuss meeting with me so we can work on updating the website. I've been politely and professionally trying to get ahold of her to set up a time where we can meet and do it, but she continues to ignore me.

This wouldn't be a big deal, except that she is ignoring my pleas to give me the passwords to the file managers so I can work on it. So the site is in-limbo right now because she doesn't have my expertise and I don't have her passwords.

Now, we have 3 weeks until rush and nothing on our site is updated.

It's stressing me out. I'm the one that will get the blame if the site stays untouched.

I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet so we can work on this professionally, but it appears that she is holding a grudge.

It's even more frustrating that I work UNDER someone, when the Webmasters for the other chapters of my sorority are all their own individual Exec Board position.

*sighs*

Someone please have something to say regarding this. I'm at a loss. All of this could be a huge miscommunication, or it could be something serious.

One of our alums handle our website administration.. Sounds like you're in a tough spot.

This however is exactly why you have a president/vice president. Sometimes your top exec positions need to reign in chairs and such -- especially when they have petty stuff like this that could hurt the entire organization.

You will be to blame . . .

Which means you have responsibility but at the same time you don't have power.

Remember the conflict between you and your sister is immaterial at the moment compared to getting the job done, which I assume is important to you.

Plus you mentioned that TIME was critical!

You can both kiss and make up later.

Luckily the work problem is easily solved.

You need the password to the site, full access, and then you need to change the password.

You also need the information that has to go on the website.

Lets assume that you currently have neither of the above.

You need to fire off an email immediately to the president saying as follows:

In order to discharge my responsiblity to the chapter to keep the web page updated I need two things:

The password blah blah blah . . .

And the information Blah blah blah . . .

Both are currently not in my possession, so I am giving fair warning that the web site will not be updated in time unless the situation changes immediately. And the delay might very well make it imposible anyway.

*Go on to describe the situation in neutral but strong language.

I have made repeated attempts to get that information from the PR chair but have not received it . . . etc etc.

If this is all some bizarre misunderstanding it needs to be worked out ASAP or else . . . etc etc.

*But seriously, if this has been going on for a while. It is your fault for not briefing the president earlier.

*You also need to call the president on the phone as soon as the email goes out.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the input. I think my only course of action is to go to my president and ask her to intervene.

I have never wanted anything but to keep the best interests of my sorority.

Which at this time is to get the damn site updated for our rush.

Thanks all. 'Specially James for the IM.

Can't you just use the original site for now and have your sisters use/look at that one instead until you can get the passwords for the other one?
