Negative Nicknames

I hope nobody gets offended by this, but I was wondering if your campuses had negative/funny nicknames for chapters. we have them, but we aren't saying them to be mean necessarily-- most of the nicknames don't even apply to the chapters on our campus, but I was wondering if they were the similar to names that other schools have...

Alpha Phi- All for free
Easy DZ
KKG- King Kong Gorillas
Tri Delt- everybody else has!
Pi Phi- Pi Beta Thigh
ZTA- zits, tits, and ass
Sigma Crappa
Chi-Ho
A-Chi-Ho
DG- Delta Glamours

I really don't think we need to talk about this over and over again, though, especially since it's a sore spot with a lot of people. If you run a search of nicknames, you'll find many threads about this very same topic that you can read up on if you want to see what's been said in the past

before anybody else gets mad and pms me about this... this is all in fun and not to be taken seriously-- if it offends you, then you dont have enough pride in your glo to not care what others think and love it as it is. THEY ARE JUST DUMB NICKNAMES! if we didnt make them up, then we wouldn't be college students. not every greek org gets along with every other, and these nicknames are the reprecussions-- just have pride in your org and forget about these!

We have a funny one on our campus...

The Phi Delta Theta Fraternity (they're gone now, they were kicked off after one of their brothers got too drunk after a party and fell over a balcony unto the concrete patio below...he wasn't discovered until the next morning-but he survived

) Anyway, they were known for awhile as the Bi Delts, because of an embarassing incident where a few of the brothers were caught being more than "brotherly"...if you get my drift...

Actually we have a few that are a little different and just to let you know that I think they are funny here's one someone said of Lambda Chi first... Rammed a Guy..

I know this thread is just people shooting the shit but do we really need it? Nobody wants to see his or her group maligned on the site. If I am over reacting, just ignore me. phikappapsiman, I have to admit, I did not appreciate your post. Do you have first hand direct knowledge of these actions? I respect everyone's opinion but do you really need to post something like that?

That's my 2 cents.

i am assuming that ucf has an in-state rival university for sports, etc. i am sure you have nicknames for them and they have nicknames for you. for example, at virginia tech we call uva uvgay. we have many more, and they have a lot for us. however, we dont get offended by these--- they are just jokes. whenever you have 25000 college kids, there are going to be things like this. you just have to laugh and let it roll off of your shoulder. do you know HOW MANY TIMES i have heard "tri-delt-- everyone else has" or a variation of that? 1894718470127347104787410947 times!!!! i just laugh and get past it-- its the way to go.

My first thought when I read your comments was: If they are just dumb nicknames, then why bother starting a thread about them in the first place?

Seriously though, the problem that people have with Greek nicknames is that they perpetuate the negative stereotypes that have been haunting our organizations for decades. Quite honestly, I really don't feel that we should even talk about them on GreekChat... You've already seen how some posters have gotten upset with each other about what has been said about their organizations. We've got enough problems with the Greek system right now, and I honestly don't think that we need to contribute to those pre-existing problems by starting controversy with each other.

And as for the comment about how if people are offended by the nicknames then they must not have pride in their GLO... Sorry, but I just don't agree with that. I have a great love for Delta Zeta and I'm extremely proud to call myself a DZ sister. It is because of that love and pride that I am so angered to hear people call us stupid nicknames. If you don't think that hearing "Easy" connected with an organization's name has any effect on a sorority, then you should be a fly on the wall during our rush parties. I can't tell you how many times as a collegiate that I had to field the comment, "Well, I heard that y'all are Easy DZ's. Is that true?" Regardless of how stupid or childish something sounds, it can still have a negative impact on rushees' decision to join an org, or a parent's decision to finance her daughter's venture into Greek life, or a college newspaper reporter's article on Greeks. (Read the "haven't heard this word used in a while" thread if you want a good example.)

I listed one of the past links to another negative nickname thread, hoping that you would view it and let that be the end of it. We've had this same type of thread started many times here on GC, and what always happens is that some Greeks get offended and the end results are ill feelings toward another organization and its members. I think we can all agree that we just don't need that happening if it can possibly be avoided.

ok, since everyone seems to take things OVERLY serious on these boards and noone ever wants to joke around and can laugh at themselves, here are the nicknames at my school, if you don't like it...don't read it.

AZD: All Zippers Down (yes, i am making fun of myself)
Tri-Sigma: Tri-Sigma, Everyone else has
Phi Mu: Phi MOO or the pink people
ZTA: Zits, Tits and Ass
Sigma Kappa: Krappas
AOPi: A-O- Piggity-Pies or A-O-Spies

Do you mean to tell me that you never had nicknames for the other universities in your state, your rival high school, or other clubs and organizations? Please! You had to have. I'm sorry if you think this thread is stupid, but if you do, then just don't read it. Other people are posting on this thread in fun, and AREN'T treating it likes its the sign of the apocoloypse. Let them do it in peace-- after all, I'm sure that no one thinks youre easy because youre a DZ. The only reason people would think that is if your chapter perpetuated that stereotype on its own, which I'm sure it did not.

Look, you've got your opinion. I've got mine. I haven't asked that the thread be closed -- I'm simply pointing out that there are actually some Greeks out here in GC Land who don't like hearing negative nicknames about their organizations. And telling someone to just ignore a thread that they don't agree with isn't the answer. If you feel strongly about something, then you can't close your eyes, cross your fingers and just hope that it goes away. That's why I made the comments I did. I realize that some people aren't going to agree with me. But some are, and I made my comments for THEM.

no need to get mad about it- relax!! put your feet up! take a couple deep breaths! go for a run! do ANYTHING but get mad over a greek message board thread! there are more serious things in the world to worry about!
