ARIZONA GREEK LIFE
My boyfriend and I are attending Arizona State this fall and want to know what are the more well known fraternities and sororities. We know its a tough question because you should figure out what is right FOR YOU but we like to go into things with prior knowledge. PLUS, we have both already heard many stereotypes about many of the organizations anyway so we would like to hear some more comments to help get rid of our bad judgements.
Examples we have heard:
Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Kappa have the lowest number of pledges during rush.
Theta Chi and Kappa Sig are the largest and most involved fraternities on campus.
Alpha Phi cares more about looks than personality during rush.
Alpha Delta Pi's are all snobby.
Sigma Nu's must be rich.
(These are the things we heard during orientation, we dont mean to sound rude)

Listening to a stereotype about an individual sorority is not a good way to start out the recruitment process. Just because a sorority doesn't take in a huge pledge class doesn't mean that they aren't a"cool" sorority. Also, there are tons of reasons that one person might think a house is snobby, but most likely, snobby girls will exist in any house and there will be some down-to-earth girls as well. Go through recruitment with an open mind and push the sterotypes and rumors aside. Join the house that you feel like you will feel the most welcome in!

Hot-
You definitley shouldn't be stereotyping sororities/fraternities before going into rush. Chapter dynamics change w/in a single rush. It is best to keep an open mind. You also need to take into consideration- who have you been talking to? Depending on the chapter- its sad to say- but they will give you completely different stereotypes. Like, ADPi, I've never heard about them being snobby- other things- yes, but not that. You could stereotype many sororities as snobby- but why give way to Slander?
Alpha Phi? They are way outgoing! Thats cruel to say that they are only interested in their looks.
Sigma Nu? I have a lot of friends in there- let me tell ya- every sorority/ fraternity has their mix of wealth. Not just them, if you wanted to go based on stereotypes- you could say that Phi Psi was wealthy too.
And also wonder- why does a sorority have lower #'s? Could it be that they are more selective? I have a lot of friends in Sigma Kappa- and they are a very, close beautiful bunch!
As far as being outgoing? Yeah- Theta Chi, and Kappa Sig are, but so are Phi Sigs (many athletes), Sigma Nu (there are a few on student government), SAE (they dominated Safety Escort).
See what I'm saying? You can't judge a book by its cover- but you should definitely open a new chapter in your life.

Well, the Delta Gamma's are definitely the best house at ASU by way of the Sorority's. They are the prettiest, most outgoing girls you will ever meet. They like girls that are the entire package. Be a Dee-Gee at ASU!!!!

DarlingSamantha- that's great that you are so proud of your chapter, but I think that is offensive to say that you have the prettiest girls. Imagine girls who got dropped from your house and then you saying you are the prettiest girls- I'm sure that doesn't do much for their self-esteem?! Plus just becuase a girl isn't in your house doesn't mean she isn't pretty. What if DG had dropped you- would you consider yourelf ugly? Beauty fades so instead of focusing on your looks why don't you focus on sisterhood and the true meaning of friendship? I know that there are other Delta Gamma's on this board and they would never talk like you. They are great girls.

Alright girls, I am going to add a few things. I was very involved my first year at ASU and luckily for me before I even came to ASU I knew that I wanted to be in my sorority. In fact about 6 girls from my high school are now my sisters for life. When you go to ASU you are going to see different groups of girls and they will be wearing there letters somedays. Its surprising to see what house these girls are actually in. Delta Gamma girl. I can certainly understand why you would love your sorority. You do have gorgeous girls but the ones that I am friends with hate being in it. Its funny that when I hang out with my Delta Gamma, Chi Omega, Theta, and Alpha Phi friends they tend to spend more time bad mouthing their sororities then anything. Im not going to say that any sorority is better then another or that I never ever talk bad about my sorority. You will work through problems and the girls you choose to be sisters with are going to be with you throughout college so choose wisely. From my experience and most others dont choose the house whose requirement is to have flawless skin and a perfect body, but dont pick a house that doesnt do anything to get involved on campus either. Ask around. For instance, I was shopping at the mall the other day and a girl that worked there saw my letters and asked me about greek life at ASU. She said all she had heard was bad things about it and that most people at orientation had talked bad about ASU's relationship with Greeks. Luckily my friend in Delta Sig was with me and able to convince her otherwise. As I told her I will tell you. Visit every house and ask them anything you are weary about. You will be able to tell if the girls are lying. Have fun and definately let me know what you think about A-Di-Pi!!!

Although I have never been at ASU an Alpha Phi that I am so close to went to that campus and she would be hurt and shocked to here all the slamming of her chapter going on.
DO I know the whole chapter no! But do I know Jenny -heck ya. And if a young women who is polished in her appearance, fun to hang with, dedicated to her campus, her sorority, and her college Panhellenic during her college years (she was an RA for 2 yrs, a chapter officer, Panhel President, and active in apolitical org on campus) is "more concerned about looks than personality" I have certainly never noticed!
Oh by the way Jenny is now entering her second year of Syracuse Law while serving Alpha Phi as a Chapter Advisor to the Cornell Cahpter.
Yeah those A Phi's certainly appear to be backstabbing airheads to me....PLEASE meet the chapter before you decided to buy-in to lame stereotypes.

Hot--I think it's sad that you didn't have anything good to say about any sorority when in truth, each one has good qualities. Unfortunately, whoever is feeding you information is wrong because Kappa Sig and Theta Chi are not the biggest houses on campus (although they have great guys). Every person has their own opinions and biases as shown on the posts for this topic. You'd be better off forming your own opinion by going through recruitment than by picking up gossip here and there.
