how to go about national growth!

I am a part of a New National org that has been in existence for 8 years. We have only 3 chapters and about 5 or so colonies right now. We would like to start expanding to other schools but are unsure about how to go about doing that. Some of your orgs have been doing very well in that department and my question is....

HOW DO U GO ABOUT NATIONAL EXPANSION?

First, you need to know expansion is a long and hard journey for every young national organization.

Next, make sure you are ready internally to expand and have a lot of involved alumnae. If you do not have a National Board/Council that oversees the chapters, set up the National Board and incorporate the sorority. Make sure you have a Risk Management Policy and obtain insurance for the National Board and the chapters - many universities require that social sororities have insurance. Make sure the existing chapters have committed advisors and are not neglected while you expand, because you do not want to expand to new locations only to lose your older chapters.

Finally, you need to understand and articulate what benefits your organization will bring to a campus, because there are so many other social sororities and fraternities. This will enable you to determine where you should expand, and help you to find/recruit new members and justify your presence to university officials. Although it is usually easier to start chapter at public universities, you will probably still need to meet certain requirements before the university will recognize you as an official social sorority.

Good luck on growing your organization!

thank you...you are the only person on here that actually gave me some good advice! We actually just obtained insurance within the last two years, so we go that down... I will def. look into the risk management policy though.

Thanks again!
